Who is Krista Stryker?

Hey! I’m Krista Stryker, a freelance copywriter living in San Francisco. I write fundraising and direct marketing materials for nonprofits and businesses working to make the world a better place.
This includes writing for places like Mercy Corps and Friends of the Earth International, where I focused on their powerful stories to touch the hearts of their donors and move them to take action. Before I was a copywriter, I worked as a journalist writing stories for places like National Public Radio and alternative newspapers and websites in Portland, Oregon.
But I fell in love with copywriting once I realized that my words could make a bigger impact and tell a larger story than a single article could. You could say I’m obsessed with storytelling. Especially the kind that can transform the world.
But my life purpose wasn’t so clear and easy. For years, I struggled to find my niche, switching back and forth between working as a journalist and a nonprofit worker, never fully satisfied as either one. My interest in health and fitness even led me to work as a personal trainer for a brief stint while living in New York City. But I knew I’d been born a writer—and I’d also always been drawn to the world of nonprofits and do-good businesses. It was only after I discovered copywriting (they never teach you this stuff in school) that all the pieces came together and I finally began to feel like I was on the right path.
Now I get to write for the nonprofits and businesses I love and support, and make a greater impact than ever before. And what could be more rewarding than that?
But I’m not just a copywriter—when I’m not trying to change the status quo with words, I like to travel the world with my husband of three years and explore the beautiful San Francisco Bay area together with our Beagle, Rocket. I gobble up books as quickly as I can get my hands on them, and prefer to read with my cat Fishstick sprawled on my lap. I also like trying to keep up with the guys (or beat them!) in my CrossFit and Krav Maga workouts.
